The scientists have identified a new type of flu virus naming G4 virus in China which has the potential to become a new pandemic for the world.
Scientists have said that this G4 virus found in pigs but this can also infect humans. The researchers are concerned that it may spark as a global outbreak because G4 virus can easily spread from human to human.
Scientists also said that this is not an immediate problem but as it is a new virus and people could have little or no immunity for this virus so we need close monitoring on this matter. The scientists suggest some important measures for controlling the spread of the virus in pigs and also said to that to closely monitor the swine industry workers.
Pandemic Threat Of G4 Virus
When the whole world is trying to bring to an end the present COVID-19 pandemic, the experts are watching this bad new strain of this influenza as a new pandemic disease threats.
The world witnessed the last flu pandemic swine flu (A/H1N1pdm09) in 2009 then the total suspected cases were 700 million to 1.4 billion and the total death was around 284,000.
On that time the countries had developed the vaccine for swine flu so the world had controlled the swine flu pandemic. IN early study scientists said that the new flu (G4) strain is much similar to 2009 swine flu, but with some new changes.
So scientists things that the antibody for new G4 virus is pre-developed in body but there is no proof of this at the current time so the scientists are keeping an eye on this matter.
How Worried Should We Be?
Researchers said that the new virus G4 EA H1N1 can grow and multiply in the human cells and damage the respiratory system.
When researchers looked at data from 2011-to-2018, they found evidence of the recent infection in those people who worked in abattoirs and the swine industry in China. They also said that we do not have a proper vaccine for the current G4 EA H1N1 virus and the available flu vaccines do not appear to protect us from G4 EA H1N1. They also said that at present, the world is facing the Coronavirus and this new virus does not seem like an immediate problem but we should not ignore it at any cost.
In theory, a flu pandemic may occur at any time however, they are still rare events. Pandemics happen when a new strain virus emerges and easily spreads from person to person.
Currently, we will have to do a lot of R&D in developing the vaccines because whenever a new flu strain is discovered that is different from the preceding one. Nowadays interactions between the human and animals have increased and in future, it will be continuously increasing. So we may see more such viruses in future.
