Ten members of the Great Andamanese Tribe, one of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), have tested positive for COVID-19.
- 10 members of the Great Andamanese tribe, one of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group ( PVTG), have tested positive for coronavirus. Other four Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups are Jarwas, Onges, Shompens and North Sentinelese.
- The infections came to fore after the administration tested all the members of the tribe last week.
- As per the study of Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti in 2012, the Great Andamanese speak Jeru dialect among themselves and their number stands at 51.
- According to the Andaman and Nicobar Island health bulletin, the total confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Islands as on August 25 was 2,945 and the total number of deaths was 37.
